Review of Battle: Los Angeles (2011) by Harvey M — 20 Aug 2012
The sunny climes and urban locale of L.A. becomes the arena of an invading alien force in BATTLE: LOS ANGELES. Following a group trying to escape the battleground, the focus is kept tight and narrow with overall world events relegated to the occasional glimpses of radio and television broadcasts.
This, along with its verite syle cinematography, lends a certain gravitas and visceral tone to a story that has been otherwise well-told in previous movies, notably one with a jet-flying, cigar-smoking Wil Smith.
Regardless, this sci-fi tale of seemingly hopeless attempt at survival falls short despite of its action-packed, effects-laden efforts due largely to plot inconsistencies and cliches.
