Imagine War of the Worlds re-filmed to follow a group of Marines fighting the aliens and you pretty much have this movie. I didn't think War of the Worlds was a great movie, but it was an enjoyable one.
I would put this in the same category. There's not much of a plot -- it's basically a battle -- but not every movie has to be a best picture nominee to enjoy it. If you want to see an entertaining action movie with a fairly likable group of soldiers battling aliens, you're likely to enjoy the movie; it's fun.
If your enjoyment is contingent upon a detailed plot, character development and so on, you'll be disappointed.
