Review of Battle in Seattle (2007) by Dave W — 24 Sep 2009
Stuart Townsends first film is stylistic, striking and powerful on so many levels. Though the characters in BIS are fictional the story is true and I am glad it fianlly got told. For a first film Townsend delivers a piece of American history that up until now was never told except by the media.
Peoples lives were affected during this time when bad decisions made and war erupted in the middle of the city streets. What once was proposed as a peacful rally against the WTO turned into a violent and unnecessary war on both sides of the coin.
Steller acting and script writing that at times reminded me of the Acedemy Award winning CRASH as it tends to delve into peoples lives and unfold in a way where the characters become somewhat connected throughout it's runtime.
Battle In Seattle features a stellar cast and Townsend is quite fortunate to aquire such an array of talent for his first outing in directing. In conclusion this is an important film with a great effort on Stuart Townsend part in bringing these events into context for the rest of the world.
I look forward to seeing more of Townsends works in the future.
