Review of Battle in Seattle (2007) by Lee G — 24 Oct 2009
As you'll soon be able to tell, I had a few hours to kill this weekend so I swept through our Video On Demand features, one of the better ones being "Battle in Seattle"- presented to you in part by our very own Redwood Palms Pictures and Insight Film Studios for an impressive eight million.
I will be the first to admit I had no idea whom or what the "WTO" is until now.
Based on true events, Battle is the story of activists who converge upon Seattle to protest a meeting of the World Trade Organization. What was meant to be "non-violent" demonstration quickly turns into a gong show!
Charlize Theron, Michelle Rodriguez, Woody Harrelson alongside Ray Liotta make for an impressive Cast but not once did I find any one of them trying to steal the show.
The juxtaposition of the actual 1999 protest stock footage to the already fast-paced quick edits adds a real element to the narrative. Although the filmmakers do set out to educate- this is not a documentary... more like a great thought-provoking drama. The story is enriched with fully developed characters- bravo.
