Review of Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973) by Bill T — 26 Aug 2010
An ok ending to the whole Planet Of The Apes franchise, though everything seems to be in slow motion because everyone seems to be joyless. Since Caesar the ape is king, everything is hunky dory, and Apes are slowly taking over as rulers of the earth.
When Caesar wants to find out more about his past, he goes, yes, into the Forbidden City, and yes, the Forbidden city people are still freaky. They take this intrusion of their city as a signal for war, and come out to fight them! Not a bad plot, but everyone either seems bored or anemic.
Especially the people in the Forbidden city. The only people seemingly up to task in this movie are of course Mcdowall as Caesar, and a great Claude Akins as Aldo.
