Review of Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973) by Alex G — 19 Aug 2011
Aside from a fantastic performance by Roddy McDowall, it is hard how to interpret this sequel. While others seem to deny it, the film implies a change in the fate of mankind--one of peace instead of violence.
Unfortunately, this feels more like a cop-out than a rewarding development. For a film that is supposed to represent so much it comes off very small scale and features incredibly 2-dimensional villains.
Moments are good, but overall it feels like the unfortunate result of the re-edited ending to the prior film.
