Review of Batman: Year One (2011) by John D — 12 Jul 2012
For those of you that are familiar with the Frank Miller take on Batman... This cannot be missed. Those of not familiar? Do not show this to your kids!
-Frank Miller's Batman is a nearly psychotic, obsessive loner that utilizes his pain, skills, intelligence, and wealth to mete out punishment on those that deserve it. For example: the opening few minutes shows Bruce Wayne flying over Gotham, having just returned from his travels. He remarks something to the effect of "From up here, Gotham could almost be a nice place to live. I need to be down there... Where I can see the Enemy.".
Meanwhile? Jim Gordon is coming in to Gotham via train (He had his wife fly in... He doesn't want her to see the hell-hole she'll be living in up close.).
Jim Gordon is an honest cop in a city built on corruption... And he doesn't yet realize that he will need the help of a psychotic, obsessive genius billionaire.
This is NOT the Adam West Batman. This is a man conducting a one-man war on Crime.
