Review of Batman vs. Robin (2015) by Jacob M — 14 Feb 2017
DC usually does good work in terms of the animated movies, but this one is a bit of a mixed bag for me. I love the Court of Owls storyline and I think that it is one of the best things to come out of the New 52 and I love the character Talone and his foil to Batman, but I absolutely hate Damian Wayne! I feel he adds nothing new to the Batman mythos or to the role of Robin; whereas all his predecessors had their take on being Robin and did it their own way, Dick being the acrobat and being the most like Bruce, Jason being the angry one who went off the rails, and Tim being the smart, tech-savvy Robin, but I feel Damian Wayne is just a re-hash of all the previous Robins into a character who is really more at home in a mediocre fan-fiction rather than in mainstream comics.
The Court of Owls storyline would be amazing if it were translated into a movie, but this doesn't do the story justice. Almost every scene with Damian could have been done with another Robin or omitted from the movie completely and given over Bruce and the Court of Owls.
If it had been, this would have been in the league of "Under the Red Hood" or "Superman vs The Elites", but this just ends up being rather disjointed and shallow.
