Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Donald R — 28 May 2017

Awesome movie.

There are a few minor issues with the film, but nothing to justify hating the movie that it was intended to be.

Ben Affleck is spectacular as Batman.

Henry Cavill is excellent as Superman.

Gal Gadot is not in the movie enough to claim greatness, but she certainly isn't a problem. What she does is very good and makes me very happy that the Wonder Woman movie is coming soon.

Jesse Eisenberg portrays a very different Lex Luthor than I have seen before or was expecting, but he delivers a very good performance. I'm not a big fan of Jesse Eisenberg, but I will give him credit where it is due.

I believe that Batman v Superman was a phenomenal movie, and was very satisfying movie on all counts. It's not quite as genius as Man of Steel, but an exceptional follow up for the DC universe.

I'm eagerly anticipating Suicide Squad and the Justice League movies. Just can't stand the wait!

Having seen the movie 5 times, every criticism I've heard has either been illegitimate, a no-win scenario, or a personal preference. Personal preferences really shouldn't weigh heavily into the rating of a movie, though. No-win is when a filmmakers choice is criticized when the alternative offered (i.e., further exposition) would be equally criticized; which makes these and unfair criticism. Illegitimate is when a critic claims that a movie does not do what it does do, and many times mixes with personal preferences.

My children, 10 and 8, loved the movie upon the first viewing of it. It is a beautiful film. Watch it for what it is instead of what you might hope it to be.... we have time for THAT tone later, I believe.

Update: It's about time to see Wonder Woman! I believe that this film will begin to prove my perception of the direction of the filmmakers are taking in this Cinematic Universe. I can't wait for the weekend!!
