Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Lou A — 18 Nov 2017
Misunderstood and extremely ambitious, and one of the most unique superhero movies ever made. The pristine cinematography and the impeccably constructed action sequences go hand-in-hand, and the cast is fantastic. Affleck is easily the stand-out performance as the caped crusader, being the first to truly emulate the essence of the comicbook character; he is both physically imposing and shows plenty of internal darkness. Eisenberg's Luthor may be off-putting to fans of silver-age comics, but the modernization of his character is interesting and his acting skills are undeniable. Gadot even makes a splendidly epic introduction as the amazonian warrior princess and leaves everyone excited to see more of her. Snyder is criticised for making his film overly dark and self-serious, but instead of creating a "fun" blockbuster, he crafted a beautiful story about a Batman who has lost his way, being brought out of the abyss and having his humanity restored by a man who is not even human.
