Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Jeremy B — 30 Dec 2017
I re-watched this recently. My first time I left feeling okay about it. I think I really wanted it to be good and I love these heroes, so I gave it an emotional rating that was way more than it deserved. Now that I've seen it again, I have to lower it. Casting and directing of the cast really blew it for me in this movie. I can live with most the actors, Lex Luthor is the worst... I can't get over it. Seriously ruined the movie for me. Lex is a smart, strong, powerful human being who believes that humanity is better off without super heroes; that is who he is and that is his motivation. He's not a rich, unhinged brat. He's not a cheap rip off of the Joker.
The plot/story has serious problems as well. The homicidal animosity Bruce and Clark have is shallow and is cast aside too quickly. And why would Clark send Bruce to save his mom? That make no sense. The only reason that was done is to put Superman against Doomsday as quickly as possible. Terrible execution in so many ways..
