Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Jason B — 24 Feb 2018

I actually thought Man of Steel was a fine movie, but it's safe to say that I'm not a fan of what Snyder, Goyer and Terrio have been doing with this franchise - and Warner Bros' interference just makes things worse.

The first time that we get to see Superman and Batman, which used to be the two biggest and most popular superheroes, meeting and fighting together in the big screen and actually seeing the entire DC trinity, with this film being the very first appearnce of Wonder Woman in a live action film, was the most disappointing cinematic experience I've ever had in my life.

I think most of the cast is talented and some of them even do a good job, but Snyder's directing is just very messy and even selfish, which doesn't make all the performances enjoyable and none of them lives up to my expectations.

Sure, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman got to shine later in her solo film, but that's it. There is barely any action in this movie. It ignores the promise of a big battle between the two comic book icons and instead fills its runtime with people complaining about Superman while he doesn't do anything for it and just sits there being sad, while Batman is made to think Supes is a bad guy that he has to kill.

And that's more than half of the movie. What is left is a short battle between the two heroes with poor CGI that looks like it's made for a 2000's live-action Scooby Doo movie and then the obvious assembling of the three heroes against a CGI monster, something that has been spoiled from the trailers.

You pretty much know already what happens in the movie. There was no point for this film to be made. They should have just gone for a Superman sequel or a Batman solo film. This film is part of the problem with the DCEU - there wasn't a plan other than to make cool-sounding, event-like films that will be hyped and make money, no matter their quality.
