Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Minh N — 02 Jan 2018
It's at times pretty to look at, and Affleck is devoted, but this film is an utter mess, jammed with to many characters and nonsensical plot points.
Snyder again confuses a dark and gritty tone with complexity and deeper meaning. This film wants you to think it's deep, but instead, it's just bloated and joyless, featuring pessimistic and violent representations of beloved characters.
There are no interesting character arcs here, it's hard to root for our "heroes", which leads to the ugly CGI-infested final battle to be uninteresting. It also doesn't help that the plan of Eisenberg's unconvincing Lex Luthor is hard to follow even in the Ultimate Cut.
Yes, there are some cool scenes (Batman's warehouse fight!) and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman is cool (if out of place), but for a film that wants to be so epic, there is not much to really be interested in.
