Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Jeremy — 23 Jan 2017
For the theatrical cut I would give this film a C-. the amount of story that was cut to keep the running time under three hours was a terrible mistake. after viewing the ultimate three hour directors cut my grade has moved to a solid B.
The tone is the same but Clark Kent is fleshed out so we actually feel for him and his journey throughout the film. Where it felt very Bruce Wayne heavy the first time around, it now feels much more well balanced. You actually know why Superman dislikes Batman.
The critics ripped Snyder apart for not making a coherent film, full of plot holes and underdeveloped characters. This version shows the film makes perfect sense and Snyder's true vision which was sacrificed by the studio to have the film play more times per day generating more revenue for the studio. Bad move.
Batman v superman still has some issues. if you don't like the characterizations or story, that's taste, that's your opinion. It is not a bad film though. If you care to see Snyder's true vision I suggest you watch the Ultimate cut and judge for yourself.
