Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Jay Z — 18 Feb 2017
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, like Man of Steel, is imploded with many great ideas that never completely come to fruition. It desperately tries to juggle a story of its own, along with some kind of a premise for stories yet to come in the DCEU.
Even though this is all true, Dawn of Justice still somehow manages to come up with a great little origin story for Batman. The movie shows us Batman go through scarring events as a child, then the outcome of that. It also continues to expand upon the emotions and feelings of Superman by showing how he's been affected by his previous actions, how he's dealing with them, and how infamy has changed him and will continue to change him.
This is an overall okay film with a messy story, great action, good development of characters, creative themes, and inventive plot. The thing we must ask ourselves about this film, though, is if the messy plot is too much of a setback that ruins the entire story itself.
