Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Mel N — 29 Apr 2017

I just saw Batman v Superman and I loved it but I can see why it might not be a movie for everyone. Contrary to what some critics have said, this is not a popcorn movie, and is not overstuffed in any way (the story is clear, characters act according to what they know and Justigue League elements are drawn briefly).

Batman v Superman has a clear outline: Act 1: Accountability after MoS; Act 2: Batman v Superman; Act 3: Dawn of justice; But.. besides this fact, there is nothing in this movie that you might have seen in any Superman or Batman movie (besides obvious MoS references), or in any other Superhero o Comic movie that I know of (and I've seen them all I think).

Revisited review:

I consider Man of Steel a masterpiece. Even tho I believe a more linear story would have improved the film, I still regard it as the best Superman film made to date (after decades of bad films and tv drags). When I first heard back in 2014 they decided to make a Batman vs Superman film my first thought was that it was a mistake. I was't interested in watching both heroes come at each other and also I thought (at the time) it was a plain stupid fight. Relase date came. I enjoyed this film at the teather back when it was released, but I realize now I was hungry to see these DC characters back to the big screen and this made me blind to the issues in it.

After having watch BvS many times I still stand on it being a good film (especially the longer Ultimate Cut). I've seen badly made movies and BvS is not one of them. However, three issues now send me off everytime I try to watch it: Lex Luthor's mannerisms and badly explained motivations for his plot, Batman's blind and pointless motivations to fight supes (wasn't he the smart one?), and the infamous Martha scene. There have been many attempts to explain or justify these issues, some making sense, some making a (huge) stretch, but if they have to be explained this much it is obvious they were not sufficiently well made.
