Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Charley%20 N — 03 Jun 2017
I'm honestly at a loss with this. The critics are eviscerating it and I'm honestly baffled as to why. I can see someone being disappointed. But the vitriol directed at this one is absurd. I guess they should have Superman make a joke when a city collapses, a la a Marvel movie.
Affleck makes for maybe the best overall Batman yet. Cavill, while not utilized as much as I would like, is solid. And I want more Wonder Woman, as soon as possible. Eisenberg is uneven as Lex Luthor, but not terrible.
I happen to love what Marvel does. But there is room for a more introspective, philosophical, serious take on super heroes. While imperfect, this was a fine addition to comic book filmdom. I hope it does well enough for DC to polish up the shortcomings and bring more of the characters that I love to the big screen.
