Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Scotty J — 15 Oct 2017
For a movie called "Batman vs Superman", this should have been a lot more fun. A movie you have to endure, a movie you have to wade through. I give it two stars for Batfleck (who was well-realized.
I liked the suit, the gadgets, the Batmobile, and the performance) and the one or two nice moments. Other than that, poorly handled on nearly every front. One of the most legitimately frustrating mainstream blockbusters since Trans4mers: Dinotronic Jamboree.
Blatantly obvious and distracting setup for Justice League to the point of being maddening, Wonder Woman is completely bland and useless, Jesse Eisenberg, while not doing bad work here, is not remotely Lex Luthor, Lois Lane is nothing but a cardboard cutout of a damsel in distress, Lex's assistant is killed before we have any time to see her as she is in the comic books, and one of the most underwhelming and infuriating climaxes I've ever seen (it's disrespectful to the Superman/Doomsday lore, it's completely useless because we all know that there are going to be sequels with Supes in them so we don't believe his death at all, and it's all practically moot to the audience going in because we've already had the reveal spoiled in the overly-long trailer anyways).
A noisy, boring, indulgent, overly-long, somewhat sexist outing that will make you tired of the DC Cinematic Universe before it even takes off.
