Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Owen Q — 30 May 2017
The theatrical version of this movie is one of the worst superhero movies I've ever seen. Thankfully, the Ultimate Edition saved it in my eyes. Featuring strong performances, powerful visuals, and intense action, Batman v Superman is a genuinely good movie.
The titular showdown between the two heroes is spectacular, and Batman attacking the warehouse is better than any fight scene in any other Batman movies, even if the movie as a whole isn't as good.
I actually liked Jesse Eisenberg's take on Lex Luthor, even if that's not the popular opinion. Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, and Gal Gadot all give strong performances as well. Additionally, the musical score is Oscar-worthy.
Doomsday isn't a great villain, but he's not as bad as most people think. The reason he didn't have a beard is because he hadn't gotten that strong yet. Overall this is a good film that simply didn't quite live up to high expectations.
