Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Araminta G — 27 Sep 2017
Let's get worst out of the way first.
Jesse Eisenberg was horribly, horribly miscast. His performance embodies nails on a chalkboard. This is the only movie I've seen with Eisenberg in it so I don't know if he was told to act this way or if this is his regular shtick. If this is how he usually acts, how does he keep getting work? If this is how director Zack Snyder told him how to act, how does he keep getting work?
I've not seen Man of Steel so I can't compare, but Henry Cavill's Superman is such a dud in this movie. All he does is grimace and furl his forehead for two plus hours, making me think he's got Kryptonian Constipation. Christopher Reeves - heck, even George Reeves from the fifties TV show, brought a charm to the role. Cavill brings.... um, abs! Yeah, he brings abs.
I guess the process of elimination gives Ben Affleck the award for best acting for the movie. I did like Jeremy Irons' interpretation of Alfred and his interactions with Affleck. Wonder Woman's theme music was kick-ass!
