Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Tim W — 25 May 2017
The mirror image of it's stable mate, Wonder Woman. This isn't as bad as most say and WW isn't as good either. I enjoyed this. Yes, it's over involved and yes, it's too long. But it is the most adult of all the superhero films to date even if it is trying too hard.
The action scenes are spectacular - of course they're CGI for God's sake, what else could they be? - and it's all very dark and menacing. But, and they're big buts, Henry Cavill can't act and Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luther is the most annoying character turn since JaJa Binks.
Isn't Lex Luther supposed to be a criminal mastermind? Instead we get a cross between Mark Zuckerberg and Rainman. Ben Affleck makes for a convincing enough Batman (think of some of those who have gone before) and Jeremy Irons gives a different take on Alfred, usually played as a caricature English butler.
Bottom line: DC characters work better made out of Lego.
