Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Supes S — 14 Feb 2017

A gracelessly assembled behemoth of a film -- its dire and dreary aesthetic aspiring for epic import, but delivers a world to which we can't relate. Affleck's Batman, for all his technical smarts, might as well be an idiot when it comes to psychology.

And this "dark" version of Superman betrays what the character stands for. Individual scenes might look cool, but the film never coheres. The conflict between the two leads is not believable, and their dangerous actions belie their efforts to save human life.

And Eisenberg's Lex Luthor is an atrocious creation, a mistaken attempt to the tread the same ground as Ledger's Joker. But the fatal flaw of this film is the storytelling: there isn't any.

It's a compilation of moody shots and glowering faces without the necessary drama to pull us along.
