Review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) by Ravissary79 . — 05 Nov 2017
DON'T LISTEN TO THE HATERS. Transformers is proof that common taste is hopelessly subjective.
In a nutshell, this movie is Man of Steel meets Arkham City, and all put together in the style, tone and story telling feel of Watchmen. If you hate those movies you might not like this one. If you like them, than this film is a dream come true. It's a comic come to life, set in our world with self doubt, a 24 news cycle and flawed people. THIS is Batman, THIS is Superman... if they were less cartoonish and more grounded. Wonder Woman is FANTASTIC. While the little additions of the other league members breaks up the story flow, and a few scenes are a-linear, they're no where near as confusing or problematic as the critics make them out to be.
If you grew up in the 80s like me and remember when comics got serious and tackled major issues and had dark tones, then maybe you can appreciate this. It's as if Snyder simultaneously deconstructed the sacred cows and child images of these characters, and in their place erected red blooded, breathing versions that LIVE. It's a beautiful film.
