Review of Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010) by Ryan B — 02 Sep 2010
Editing Room Edition:
Although the story line is virtually a carbon copy of a really good story arc from the "Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul," "The Killing Joke," and some others, this is far and away the best animated Batman movie. To compare it to Nolan's vision of the world's greatest detective would be unfair. It's dark, violent, short and to the point.
Even if you aren't familiar with the "Hush" series, which I highly recommend, you get a sense of what's going on fairly early. I guess that aspect reduces the mystery and shock element, but I'm glad they did it that way - it makes more sense and really holds the plot together. Very good.
The voice acting was okay; however, ever time the Joker laughed, it sounded like Bender. Plus, I think NPH as a wise cracking Nightwing was a nice touch. Grayson was always too tightly wound in the comics.
