Review of Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010) by Christopher G — 05 Mar 2011
Animation in the US is generally reserved for kids or late night TV. The Warner Bros. Batman movies have been a notable exception. This movie deals with a new Red Hood coming to Gotham and taking over the drug trade from the Black Mask. It also shows Batman facing the repercussions of the death of Jason Todd (the second Robin) at the hands of the Joker.
Although its style is reminiscent of the long-running animated series, this movie is quite a bit more violent, with actual deaths happening on-screen. Not for the kids. The voice actors aren't the same as the ones we're used to, and the Joker seemed especially miscast to me at first (too low maybe?), but it grew on me towards the end.
Under the Red Hood meets the high standard set by the WB Batman team. Worth seeing.
