Review of Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010) by Martini J — 27 May 2011
This movie was... gripping. Kudos to the producers for adapting such a convoluted (albeit awesome) storyline beginning with the punching of the pocket universe from Superboy-Prime (see? scratching your head already) to streamlining so casual fans/readers can easily follow and not get lost.
Top honors goes to Bruce Greenwood & jason Ackles for selling their roles. You believe every word they say when they battle each other. The action scenes were probably the most elaborate and intricate I've seen in animated form.
It reminded me of a mix between the first scene of both Casino Royale with the parkour & Quantum of Solace with the racing, just intense. Kudos again to Bruce Greenwood. Although Kevin Conroy will always be THE Batman to me (live or animated), Bruce Greenwood comes in at a damn 1b.
His portrayal of Batman (in this and Young Justice) is a Batman who has been hurt emotionally and will not let himself be hurt again. Very good job. I recommend this movie to any fan of animated film, Batman, or just somebody who wants to see a damn good movie despite you not knowing who the hell these people are, haha.
btw, this movie had probably the BEST opening credits I've seen for this run of animated films. great storyboarding.
