This was little more than an episode of the animated series with higher production values, minus Conroy and Hamill in their usual roles.

There is tons more to the story than was could possibly have fit into this adaptation, and because of that the whole story comes off a bit flat--especially at the end.

The writers tried to make the story pay off with a "Why doesn't Batman kill" debate that in reality was more awkward than insightful. Fans of the Bat already know why anyway, because the question has been asked and answered dozens of times. After all the years Jason spent with Bruce, he should already know why too.

The Red Hood's story only pays off with a much longer treatment, within the context of comics and a season or two of TV shows, and with Dick and Tim in the mix too. I'll still pick this one up for the growing DC comics direct-to-video library, though. There's plenty of good story, excellent dialogue, and great animated action.. and its cool to see Nightwing (and hear Jason Isaacs).
