Review of Batman: The Killing Joke (2016) by Gabriel H — 24 Jul 2016
I personally felt that this film was, for the majority, faithful to the comic. It was great for the most part. However I only have a few issues with this version. One of them being that they either expanded way too much on the Barbara Gordon narrative, or not near enough on the original storyline.
I felt that the rooftop scene was appropriate, seeing as how Batman didn't really have a paternal complex at that point, and Barbara was infatuated with him. The next is that this film was not as dark as the comic which was what made it my favorite comic.
Lastly, the climax and final fight between Batman and Joker was the best part. I was only let down by the fact that they did not reveal if Batman had finally crossed that line and snapped Joker's neck during that last laugh.
But at the end of it all, all Joker wanted was to make Batman see the funny side and laugh. And the irrefutable truth about this film, whether or not you see it, whether Batman killed Joker or not, even after failing to make Gordon crack, at the end of the day, was the Dark Knight had lost, and the Joker had won.
