Review of Batman: The Killing Joke (2016) by Joey W — 01 Aug 2016
Batman the killing joke.
Batman the killing joke is based off one of the most controversial comic book and one of the greatest comic books that ever put to paper. Why? Because of the rich dialogue, suspense, terror, and blood. Alan Moore, The creator of Watchmen, From Hell, V for Vendetta, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Omnibus, and my personal favorite the killing joke. Just be honest, I was hyped to see what Warner Bros. and DC comics can do with the movie. Bring in the classic voice characters from Batman the animated series, Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill. Very worthy for being in this great comic book feature. But does a live up the hypes of the the greatest comic book ever put to paper. NO!!!
From reading and watching YouTube videos of the reviews of the movie was very shocking and yet I have to agree. For the opening scene of the movie it is just a disappointment, mainly featuring on batgirl not the joker. Figuring out the problems with Batman and batgirl, and yes roof top sex!! I get it why that the fans of the comic book is very upset by the scene making the book controversial and making the movie not worthy to see. In arguments it shows why The executives of Warner Bros. have not have a clue what they care on the movie, it shows that they want to have a quick buck. For god sake's, this is a film that is worthy to be shown in theaters, just by the title the killing joke. But Warner Bros. in DC comics ended up screwing it up. On the bright side you get to see Mark Hamill being the Joker in this film.
And in all the problems with this movie, I just wish that you should've kept the source material clear. Giving the movie homage to the creator of the comic book Alan Moore. And yet they can't even do the animation right, by giving a cheap glossing texture with CGI characters, to me is just a middle finger to the audience. I really wanted this movie to be really good, but no I didn't sadly. I want to hand drawn characters, I wanted the story to come back to front from the book. The whole point of the story is just Batman and the Joker. Scene for scene is suspenseful and gore. I want to be uncomfortable, but I didn't.
In conclusion this is not the film to be investing to, Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy, are worthy to be the voices for Batman and the Joker. To be honest why camel will be my Joker and always will be my joker. I want them to continue on by doing great voice acting with these characters. I'm not mad at the actors is not their fault. I am just sick and tired of the executives and writers of the film went so poorly. The casting they did it right, for the story and plot NO. For the directors, writers, and artist that want to do a comic book right, read the damn book!!
Grade.
7/10.
