Review of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 (2012) by Ryan V — 27 Sep 2012
Gotham City has been submerged in anarchic hell since Batman (Peter Weller) hung up his cape a decade ago. However, the gnawing vestiges of his inner nature compel the middle-aged caped crusader into coming out of retirement.
His renewed presence stirs up the blood of Gotham's vicious street gangs while also motivating a few of the older rogues into making waves again. Faithfully adapted from the celebrated comics series by Frank Miller, Klaus Janson, and Lynn Varley, The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 is a hard boiled, fast paced, noir-inflected, wonderfully animated, and finely acted potboiler.
Any superhero fan would be happy with this film.
