Review of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 (2012) by Colin C — 29 Sep 2012
I have to say, travesty here, I never read Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns." I was not allowed to be into comics at that time. Thank you, Sharla. In fact even today, now that I buy comics again, I have to treat them the way my dad treated his Playboys.
Anyway I digress. This is a fantastic film. It really explores the relationship between a James Gordon, on the verge of a retirement, and I would say a late-fifties Batman as he takes on Two-Face and a gang called The Mutants.
Dark, gritty and perfect. The animation is wonderful and blows Chrisi Nolan's pompus (yeah I said it) Dark Knight Rises out of the water. Certainly one of the best entries in the Warner Brothers Home Animation Dept.
I only hope, now with the announcement that WB is closing said dept, that we will get Part 2, because Part 1 ends with a doozy of a cliffhanger! Five Ball Point Pens!
