Review of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 (2012) by Dan F — 04 Feb 2013
Batman has an impressive animated legacy at Warner Bros, starting with Bruce Timm's incredible animated series of the 90's. DC's approach now is to adapt classic graphic novels as stand alone movies.
While some JLA works are poorly handled, Batman is ever improving. Under the Red Hood and Year One were both wonderful adaptations with their own voice independent of their inspiration, and TDKR1 follows suit.
Well cast, fluidly animated with a resplendent, stirring score to rival Hans Zimmer's trilogy work, it is a wonderful piece of storytelling and reflects Frank Miller's dark Gotham with a cyber punk twist.
Here's to part 2, with a view to taking on Dark Knight Strikes Again.
