Review of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 (2012) by Tim M — 16 Sep 2013
I'm more of a Punisher fan. The shortcomings of the universe are really apparent here. A tank with rubber bullets. Soldiers in a war on crime that refuse to kill it's enemy. Apparently it's a good idea to leave the mayor alone in a small room with a monster that isn't chained up.
Egregious anti-death penalty stance aside, it's a great cartoon. The animation is great and "the pacing seems abrupt and rapid". The world 10 years after Batman retires is novel and "extremely violent".
Fantastic finale.
