Review of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 (2012) by The Critic ( — 29 Dec 2013
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part I (2012): Based on one of the most significant comic book/graphic novel publications, this stunningly animated film adaptation, perhaps unnecessarily divided into two parts, is a work of art unto itself. It's an initially slow-burning affair, but the premise and execution are so well executed that it doesn't really matter.
Batman (Peter Weller) steps out of retirement to battle a wrongly-assumed rehabilitated Two-Face Harvey Dent (Wade Williams), spurring a chain of events that includes the return of Robin (an excellent Ariel Winter). But the film is not merely concerned with offering yet another action adventure for fans; it has so much to say about the role of the media in our lives and its impact on the broader community.
It must be said, however, that the best thing about this is that the final scene leaves you begging for 'Part II' with the inevitable re-emergence of the Dark Knight's most evil foe.
