Review of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 (2012) by Kyle M — 14 May 2013
As good an adaptation as possible. The animation fits the source material, the voice acting is spot-on, and the action has such weight to it. I felt those punches during the fights with the Mutant Leader.
Only complaints: The complete elimination of Batman's inner monologue. Don't get me wrong, the vast majority of it doesn't work for a movie, but his mental run-through of all his gear and his step-by-step commentary of his fighting strategies were great.
Also, the cleaned-up violence and language is very conspicuous. I realize Frank Miller uses an abundance of cursing and grotesquery that was unnecessary. But hide the re-writes a little more, please.
Anyway, those are such nitpicks. Watch this movie! It's good Batman!
