Review of Batman Returns (1992) by Tyler J — 19 Jun 2015
This movie is weird. it's like watching a batman performance done in a Vegas hotel on Friday night. everything is so whimsical and outlandish that it dumbs down the seriousness that the role desreves.
again massive changes to canon make it fall short of being good superhero fanfare. the darkness isn't a problem for me but what they did to penguin I'll always hate burton for. he's not some disgusting midget with deformities but really a high class very wealthy villian that uses his smarts wealth to bring the bat down.
keaton again is underwhelming with subtle hints at seriousness that fall short of what the character of batman should be. this movie doesn't really have the nostalgia to make it ring through like the original does and with burtons forray into darker tones and circus like exposition we ended up getting Joel schumaker replacing him.
which we all know how that crap fest went c movie.
