Review of Batman Returns (1992) by Paul R — 24 Oct 2012
Tim Burton pulls out all the stops in quite possibly his most Burton-esque film to date. Dark, manic and rich with detail, Batman Retuns is the superb follow up to Burton's original Batman. Benefitting from not having to go through the bat back story, Burton was free to fill it full of his quirky brilliance.
It owes a lot of it's success to some brilliant casting. Pfeiffer as Catwoman, DeVito as Penguin, a Wild-Eyed Walken and of course my favourite Bruce Wayne - Michael Keaton. It all just gels perfectly.
Its larger than life but somehow manages to not lose it's way as the audience is taken on bizarre Burton drenched Bat extravaganza that not even the clunky one-liner riddled script can't ruin.
