Review of Batman Returns (1992) by Guido S — 23 Dec 2013

I saw this a bunch when it came out when I was a kid and loved it. However, I haven't seen it again since I was just a kid. Watching it again, still can recall whole scenes pretty vividly and remembering how creepy this one was.

Basically, Christopher Walken is a tycoon and trying to update the power plant to line his pockets. The penguin finds out that he isn't going by code and blackmails him to help him live normally. He helps him to run for mayor which just never worked for me as a kid and still doesn't.

The whole plot seems dumb and doesn't really move anything forward. In the midst of all this, Michelle Pfeiffer was killed by Walken when she found sensitive documents. She looses it and turns into Catwoman.

My big problem with the film is it feels more like a Catwoman movie and Batman happens to be in it. Batman/Bruce Wayne don't do much in the film. He does come to the rescue a few times, but that's because he's called in.

It also probably has the weirdest death when Walken is electrocuted and his frozen corpse is more of a joke than scary. It's ok, not nearly as good as I remembered it being, but still enjoyable.
