Review of Batman Returns (1992) by Joe N — 10 Feb 2014

I was a little unfortunate not being really allowed to watch this as a kid due it being so scary and dark. Because it's a good movie, The performances by Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfieffer and Christopher Walken were just flawless.

Those 4 in particular made the movie great. Now Penguin's back story is a little different from the comics and is a rather sympathetic villain who comes off as more misunderstood than just flat out evil.

Catwoman is also different from her comic book counter part as she has humble beginnings before becoming Catwoman where Catwoman in the comic book was a tough girl from the get-go, but the writers tried to make her more interesting and I think that was a good bold move.

Batman meanwhile has an interesting relationship with both of them, especially Catwoman. Overall, this movie was well made and arguably better than the first Batman movie, however, I'll admit it's a little depressing but very intriguing.

I would have liked to see a Batman sequel follow up on this movie a little better, maybe have Catwoman in the next one, but unfortunately, the darkness was controversial and the studios decided to go in a more light hearted direction.

So in short, in the words of Penguin and Batman "Things change".
