Review of Batman Returns (1992) by Christian M — 04 Jul 2016
Batman Returns is the sequel to Tim Burton's Batman, as I stated in the Batman review I think its definitely the most paramount superhero movie created. Batman Returns had a lot live up to being that its predecessor was just so unique in ever regard and for Tim Burton to take everything that excelled in Batman, transfer it over to Batman Returns and then manage to make the sequel even better than the first is nothing short of remarkable! Batman Returns was the first Batman movie I watched, I was 3 when I first viewed it so watching the film now 17 years later brings with it a level of utter nostalgia and fond memories. Burton's gothic and dark storytelling is back and more impressive than ever and it's beautifully balanced with another fantastic and evocative score from Danny Elfman. It's an enticing and grand Gotham City that's been created and I'd love to visit and love to live there and I think that's the biggest compliment I could possibly give set designer Bo Welch. Michael Keaton is back and he brings an even more brooding Dark Knight to the table along with stellar performances from DeVito's Penguin, Pfeiffer's Catwoman and Walken's Shreck; every character helps ground the Dark Knight in this fantastical yet realistic world that they inhabit, they all play to each others strengths and weaknesses and it just works!
Tim Burton first gave us the most influential Batman movie, and then he followed up by giving us in my personal opinion the best Batman movie. Batman Returns is an unforgettable triumph.
