Review of Batman Returns (1992) by Lloyd H — 27 Jan 2013
This is a great sequel that never receives the credit it deserves. Tim Burton ups the stakes and this film has all the ingredients of a strong sequel. Michael Keaton is great as Batman but again struggles to explore the character of Bruce Wayne.
Danny De Vito is brilliantly cast as the Penguin, his performance fits the tone of the wrest of the film perfectly. Michelle Pfeiffer is great as Selina Kyle (Catwoman). She is one of my favourite characters of the Tim Burton Batman world and the presentation of the role works brilliantly.
Christopher Walken is great as Max Shreck, his performance adds that extra bit of star quality. Danny Elfman's musical score is once again brilliant. The action and set pieces are bigger and better and this film holds its own as a great sequel.
This and the original Batman film are timeless classics and parts of my childhood that I grew up watching. Personally the original is my favourite, but this is a great sequel and a great film.
