Review of Batman Returns (1992) by Collin P — 25 Jun 2015
Just like the first Batman, the villains get the better meat to chew on and steal the movie, more specifically Michelle Pfeiffer. DeVito was great but sometimes seemed like he was overdoing it with some of the ticks of the character.
Christopher Walken was also great but didn't really serve a big purpose in this film. Keaton once again just seemed really flat to me and his scenes slowed the movie down. Also like the first movie, all the production elements are fantastic from the score, costumes, make up, sound, production design, art direction, and visual effects.
I felt the writing was weaker in this movie compared to the first one but Burton's direction was as great as the first. I am a little worried that now going into Forever that Burton's touch might get lost in the torch pass but it leaves me interested to see where this era of the franchise goes.
