Review of Batman Ninja (2018) by Late R — 22 Sep 2018
Despite an enjoyable and promising first act, an interesting premise with tons of potential, and some awesome re-designs for some of the most iconic heroes and villains associated with the Dark Knight, 'Batman Ninja' is, unfortunately in this case, extremely Japanese.
Don't get me wrong, cheesy anime surely has its place and can be loads of fun, but I just can't bring myself to say "cheesy fun" is the ideal tone for this hero (I refer you to Joel Schumacher's abominations as proof).
So yeah, the first half has a lot of cool things going on and is pretty fun, but ultimately, it devolves into something really, really silly and becomes completely nonsensical (as opposed to agreeably nonsensical up until that point), with the last 30 mins.
or so pushing the level of ridiculousness to new heights. If you watch this, do it for the stylish, creative designs and visuals; the rest of it is an amusing little show with its different take on the Caped Crusader, but in the end, it's just too out of sync with the whole tone of Batman to be anything more than that.
