Review of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993) by Darien H — 06 Mar 2010
Hyped as one of the great super hero anime, it does raise the bar over many of the genre by effecting a 40s noir feel and attempting smoother dialogue.
Detracting from the tone is Bruce Wayne's teen angst love interest, but at least it's an attempt at character development.
Minimalist line art and lots of reds abound visually.
The story has a few twists to raise it to adolescent sophistication from the children's fare of other offerings.
I'm still not seeing anything close to manga.
