Due to its simple narrative - partially because the film was a small part of the larger Batman animated TV series - Batman: Mask of the Phantasm succeeded in being a quasi-origin story for the DCAU Batman and for nailing the point across that by being the Bat, Bruce will never lead a normal, happy life.
