Review of Batman: Gotham Knight (2008) by Joey C — 01 Dec 2008
Created as a marketing tie-in to "The Dark Knight", in a similar fashion to "The Animatrix" was for the Matrix sequels, this anime-continuation of the story started in "Batman Begins" features six, poorly-tied-together, short stories that span a mere 70 minutes of running time.
There are some pluses - the combat sequences are better than the Chris Nolan films and the final two stories are worth a watch (the Bruce Wayne training in India features the best writing and the finale where Batman battles a super-sniper named Deadshot features the only decent animation), but for the most part this is a messy malaise of bad writing, poor direction, cheesy voice-acting and awful pacing.
Fun to watch once, but not cutting edge or clever in the slightest. "The Animatrix" this is not.
