Review of Batman: Gotham Knight (2008) by Kathleen P — 02 Dec 2008
I like Batman. I grew up with the cartoons as a child, and remember liking how he was a nice guy who was smart and liked to help people. At least, that's what I remember, and that's why I thought it would be fun to watch this new movie.
Batman: Gotham Knight is an anime-styled set of six animated shorts. I was pretty turned off by the first one, which is about a bunch of kids imagining their various views of Batman, but it gets better from there.
I also had my doubts about a pretty flowy-haired anime-pretty-boy Bruce Wayne, but with Kevin Conroy as the voice (the same voice I grew up with in Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond), it works.
Some of the animation is a little different (orâ?¦ weirder) than I was used to growing up. And, the stories are really short little snippets so it seemed a little bit unsatisfying. It was also different than the animated series because of the bits of spurting blood a la anime (which I never grew up with.
.. I am not a big fan of graphic violence). But the stories are mostly interesting, it gets better as you keep going, and you get to see how Bruce Wayne evolves into the Dark Knight. I think this is a pretty good addition to the animated Batmans.
