Review of Batman: Gotham Knight (2008) by Erwin H — 07 Feb 2009
Batman: Gotham Knight is a 2008 animated direct-to-DVD anthology film of six animated short films that is "marketed" as set between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. I use the word "marketed" here, because actually when you see it, you realize that some of the story depicted feels not right with the universe that Nolan created. In some ways, I feel cheated by it, because one of the reasons why I watch this movie is because I want to see the bridging story between "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight". Would you believe that before encounter Joker, Batman has an encounter with Killer Croc?
Just like "The Animatrix", the movie is interesting to watch, because the shorts are written by different writer, and each of them is executed in different anime style. While some of the stories feel decent, the animation styles are feast to the eye.
In the end, this is a movie that might generate interest for Batman fans. But donâ??t expect that this movie will enrich your experience of watching "The Dark Knight.".
