Review of Batman: Gotham Knight (2008) by Abhilash S — 17 Jan 2010
Anime-inspired direct-to-DVD anthology film. Comprised of six short stories, from diverse creators, including Academy Award-nominated Josh Olsen (A History of Violence), Batman Begins writer David S. Goyer, and comics scribe Brian Azzarello.
It's planned for a release window of two to four weeks prior to the release of The Dark Knight, and would bridge the gap between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Yes, the events in the movie takes place between the events between the two movies, "Batman Begins" & "The Dark Knight".
So we can easily say this animated flick as a part of the New Batman Movie Series. All the six stories has been directed by six individual directors. And all of them are a Masterpiece in their own way.
Yes, this is one of the classic animated flick for matured audience (It is not really meant for the kids, but they would love it as well). The title of the six stories are as follows - "Have I Got A Story For You", "DeadShot", "Field Test", "Working Through Pain", "Crossfire" & "In Darkness Dwells".
It is very tough to chose the best among all the stories. Every story has something special in it. Also in one of the story, Bruce Wayne can be seen in India, to learn some special skills. The animation is made of Japanese style, but it is good to see.
The dubbing by Kevin Conroy is perfect. The background score is absolutely thrilling & impressive. If you are a big Batman fan & you want to see some classic stuff regarding Batman (After "The Dark Knight"), then do watch this.
One of the masterpiece of Batman, on-screen. A classic animation movie.
