Review of Batman: Gotham Knight (2008) by Jacob F — 05 Aug 2012
I am not a fan of the animation, it just doesn't have the right feel and fit to the Batman style. There are a lot of shades from Batman Begins in different aspects throughout. The first story is like the episode of Batman The Animated Series with kids telling stories about Batman with their own twist on how he looks.
The second story is a good idea, a cop in Gordon's unit who doesn't like the Batman but ends up getting himself and his partner saved by Batman. Also cool to see the shades of Arkham City idea in there for a brief moment.
I didn't like the third story all that much, Bruce Wayne did not really look like the Bruce Wayne he looks like in every other rendition and his voice didn't match the look. Even though the story perfectly outlines Batman's characteristics of saving a gang member he accidentally deflected a bullet into, I didn't believe Batman would even use that type of shield in the first place but it did show his colours in that light at the end of the story where he doesn't want it because it can potentially harm people.
It was accurate with the Fox-Wayne meetings for checking out new technology though. The fourth story finally gets some of the supervillains and some good choices with Croc and Scarecrow, too bad neither lasts long but they blended well with eachother in the short story.
The fifth story is very interesting dealing with some of the origins of how Bruce learned to deal with pain, it is well told in pieces from flashback to real time. The last Dead Shot story was great, it was simple and full of action and was pure Batman entertainment.
